The earliest versions of the Medal of Honor Database will offer only one menu item for reports.  From this one menu item however, a wide range of informative reports can be generated.  The reports available on the initial release of the database are all based upon the AWARD PRESENTATION field, and parameters are entered in an input box using wild cards.  The report shown at the top of this page was generated by:

  1. Selecting Reports on the main switchboard

  2. Choosing the (only) option Reports Based upon Award Presentation from the menu.

  3. Entering the parameters *Eisenhower* in the input box

These steps generated a report showing that Dwight D. Eisenhower presented 14 Medals of Honor as President (none as a WWII general), and lists the presentations chronologically with the Recipient's name, Branch of Service, War, Place where the award was presented, To whom the award was presented (for posthumous awards), and the Date of that presentation.

The power of these reports is in the selection of your key words and the placement of your wild cards.  Below are some examples of how it could be used:

Key Words Results
*White House* Returns a report of all Medal of Honor presentations that occurred at the White House.
*Admiral* Returns a report of all Medal of Honor presentations made by any Admiral, Vice Admiral or Rear Admiral.
*General* Returns a report of all Medal of Honor presentations made by any General.
*General*Patton* Returns a report listing the TWO Medals of Honor presented by General George S. Patton.
*President* Returns a report of all Medal of Honor presentations made by either the President or the Vice President, listing the presentations chronologically.
*President*Truman* Returns a chronological report of all Medals of Honor presented by President Harry S Truman.
*President*Ford* Returns a list of all Medal of Honor presentations by Gerald Ford, both as VICE President, and as President.
*Vice President*Ford* Returns a list of the 14 (of 20 total) Medal of Honor presentations made by Gerald Ford as Vice President.

Reports such as the preceding can reveal often interesting information.  A review of the report for Gerald Ford, for instance, reflects that he presented a total of 20 Medals of Honor.  Of those 20, 14 were presented when he was Vice President, and ALL 14 of those presentations were posthumous awards presented to family members at Blair House in Washington, DC.  As President, Gerald Ford presented 6 Medals of Honor during two different ceremonies, all at the White House and five of the six awards were presented to living recipients.

Because of the great interest most Medal of Honor historians and other parties have in locating the burial locations of our deceased heroes, our database provides options to review/print a variety of reports based upon this information.  To see what this option offers, click on the Burial button, or the text link below the screenshot of our database main switchboard.
