Medal of Honor Database
(On CD/ROM)*
Since we began developing this database three years, 32 Medals of Honor have been presented and new information had to be added. As we go to press, at least one additional presentation is confirmed that will again change the data. Also in that same time period, 31 living Medal of Honor recipients passed away. Such changes make it necessary for us to periodically update our database.
In addition to these updates, we from time to time have to update when:
We receive new photos of recipients we previously did not have in our database, or better quality photos of recipients already in our database.
We find information previously unknown about recipients, such as locating the burial site of a recipient.
We find corrected information on a recipient. We believe our current database is the most accurate compilation of Medal of Honor data presently available. None-the-less, from time to time we obtain information (from family members, personal interviews in old publications, etc.) that corrects previous information.
We develop new forms and queries to allow database users additional options on the main switchboard.
Unlike printed media like books, the database can be quickly and easily updated. Our plan is to make an updated version of the database available at least annually (and more frequently when major revisions are necessary). Upgraded/updated versions of the database can be purchased for the low price of $9.95 plus $4.95 for postage and handling. This option is only available when you purchase the initial database.
* Persons who purchase the Limited Edition Signature Database receive with their copy a certificate entitling them to FREE upgrades (you pay only postage and handling) for life.
*Persons or organizations who purchase a Public Use License receive with that license a certificate entitling them to FREE upgrades (pay only postage and handling) for life.
About the Author:
Doug Sterner is the webmaster for HomeOfHeroes.com and has devoted much of his life to preserving the history of our Medal of Honor recipients. He has some of the most extensive files and collections in existence and draws the data for this program from multiple resources and years of experience.
He began developing this database three years ago, primarily to aid in the development of this website. Virtually single-handedly, with no funding or support other than the dedication of my family, he has built the HomeOfHeroes.com website into one of the largest and most visited military sites on the Internet. He chose to market this database for two reasons:
1) To make this information more widely available to more people, and
2) As "seed money" to continue his efforts in keeping HomeOfHeroes.com on line.As a "one-man project" he is fully aware that in the first years of making this database available, he will receive many suggestions on how to improve the data. The upgraded/updated versions of the database are designed update data and to fix and improve upon glitches allowing us not only live up to, but exceed our customers' expectations.
