The Battle of Midway was the turning point of WWII, as Marine Pilots like Captain Richard Fleming flew outdated fighters against the enemy. The first day 15 Marines were shot down and Fleming's plane had 179 holes in it. The next day, after only 4 hours rest, he flew again. Flying in close to drop his bombs, his plane crashed into an enemy ship. Later the Japanese captain described the American pilot's action saying, "He was very brave." |
