Almost 1 year later on March 25, 1863, Secretary of War Edwin Stanton presented the FIRST medals to six Ohio soldiers for a daring commando raid. The raid wasn't successful, but the Medal of Honor recognizes courage, not just success. After presenting the medals, Secretary Stanton took the six young soldiers to meet President Lincoln. |
