Congressional Medal of Honor
Oct 12th, 2009, 9:13pm

Gayle,
Back in the 1981-1985 time frame there was a men's magazine called True.  While in the barber shop I read a story about the MOH and the fact that there were actuall two sets of MOH's. One was the military MOH and the other was the Congressional Medal of Honor that was an award given to civilians.
As I recall they mentioned that the anti-war activists Charles Lindberg was awarded the ConMOH for his service in WWII. Also the inventer of the transistor received the ConMOH  - and later I heard that Danny Thomas the comedian recieved the ConMOH.
Is this true fact - did Linberg receive the ConMOH for WW2 service ??  as so the othrer personnel ??

Charles Lindbergh was awarded the Medal for his actions on 20- 21 May 1927, his flight from New York City to Paris France.  His award is classified as an Interim award as it took place in between wars.
The true title of the Congressional Medal of Honor is actually the Medal of Honor.  Due to the fact that it is presented on behalf of the Congress, by the President, it is often referred to as the Congressional Medal of Honor.

Danny Thomas is not a recipient of the Medal of Honor.  He may have received what is called a Congressional Gold Medal which is an entirely different award.  It is also possible that the inventor of the transistor received the Congressional Gold Medal.  I am not familiar enough with the award to know who its recipients are.

For a time the Navy had two Medals of Honor.  One was awarded for combat heroism, one for non-combat heroism.  In August of 1942, the Medal for non-combat heroism was discontinued.

I hope this answers your question.
