miniature medal of honor sale?
Aug 2nd, 2008, 6:54pm

I am trying to get some clarification on the miniature medal of honor. I am selling an extensive militaria collection for the widow of a deceased collector who had a large grouping of miniature medals to include the MOH. I put these up on ebay a day ago or so, but it was ended.

Now, of course I don't want to do anything wrong, even more so when it comes to something like this, but I thought the miniature MOH was a non-regulation medal therefore exempt from 18 U.S.C. § 704(b).

Could someone clarify this for me? I read through the regulation and saw nothing mentioning anything about the sale of miniature medals.

Nor is anything mentioned in the Stolen Valor Act regarding miniature MOH's or distinguished service crosses (as seen below from the grouping I currently have).

Any help on this delicate subject would be GREATLY appreciated.

Mike

To my knowledge, a miniature Medal of Honor is not included with the presentation of the Medal of Honor. To my knowledge, the Medal, ribbon, and rosette are the only devices recognized.

Still, I would say that the production of the Medal of Honor, miniature or not, would be illegal unless authorized by Congress. The reasoning is that this Medal is Patented, thus, protected. Now, for the sale of the miniature Medal of Honor, I am unsure...

I just contacted the CMOHS on this.  Their reply is "There is no such 'miniature' medal."

In addition, "There is a law making it illegal to produce replicas of the Medal of Honor."

That said, this is obviously a very poorly made imitation.

Why would there be a miniature medal made for the ONLY US Medal worn around the neck?  Shocked
