Stories of American Heroes - Brought to you from the "Home of Heroes" - Pueblo, Colorado |

Ahoy, mates, and welcome to the crew of the USS Barb. My name is Commander Eugene Fluckey, but during World War II most people called me "Lucky Fluckey". I was privileged to command the submarine Barb through five war patrols. During the war the Barb sank more tonnage than any other American submarine.
In a minute I'll give you control of the periscope and the torpedo room, the java applet to send YOU and the Barb on three more war patrols is opening up below. But while the Barb is being loaded for our next patrol, let me tel you a few things about the submarine YOU are about to command.
Not only was the Barb one of the most successful submarines of World War II, it was also one of the most highly decorated. Our sub earned the Presidential Unit Citation, the Navy Unit Commendation, and many other awards. Our crew were pioneers in the use of submarine launched missiles. We also had the distinction of being the only submarine to sink a train. That's right, our battle flag has a train on it. Along the way, as commander of the Barb, I was privileged to receive 4 Navy Crosses, as well as the Medal of Honor. I've always believe that these awards belong to our whole crew, for what we did we did as a team.
And now, YOU are part of the team. Your game applet should have pretty well opened by now, and you can lead us on our next 3 patrols. The first patrol might be a little easy...it ends after you sink all 10 enemy ships. In the second war patrol, you'll have to watch out for depth charges. The third will be the most difficult. You will have to avoid depth charges AND enemy submarines. Take good care of my ship and, when you have finished playing, I invite you to click on the button below the game to read more about the USS Barb...The Submarine that sank a Train!"
